In fall, the air is crisp and clear: Name a book with a vivid setting.

Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness. Each book in this trilogy features a beautifully described settings but the 2nd book involves time travel to 16th century England. Harkness’ knowledge of the time is strongly evident in her description of the environment and people.

Nature is beautiful…but also dying. Name a book that is beautifully written, but also deals with a heavy topic like loss or grief.

Asking for It by Louise O’Neill. More accessibly written than beautifully written but a pretty heavy book that deals with rape. It’s aimed at a young adult audience which is reflected in the writing but has a mature bent to the story. It’s very far from fluffy or fun. It’s the type of book that burrows under your skin and haunts you.

Fall is back to school season. Share a non-fiction book that taught you something new.

Vagina: A Re-Education by Lynn Enright. Oh, the things I didn’t realise I didn’t know about my own dang anatomy! This book opened my eyes to some things about having a vagina I had never come across before. It’s a must read for people who have vagina’s and deal with menstruation but she does touch on the topic of gender as being separate to the type of reproductive organs you have. A truly fascinating read.

In order to keep warm, its good to spend time with the people we love. Name a fictional family/household/ group that you’d like to be a part of.

Sapphire Flames by Ilona Andrews. I would love to be part of the Baylor family. They have such a strong bond and are so in sync nothing gets past them!

Fall is the perfect time for some storytelling by the fireside. Name a book wherein someone is telling a story.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman. So I’d be shocked if you’ve never heard of this book but I’ll tell you about it anyway. This is about a man trying to find the book his father used to read to him. To be honest I get it a little mixed up with the movie…. but they’re pretty similar. I hate the narrator in the book but he’s left out of the movie which keeps him as a child being read to by his grandfather.

The nights are getting darker. Share a dark, creepy read.

Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist. So intensely creepy especially when you realise what is actually happening with the relationship between Oskar and Eli. This is a Swedish vampire horror novel that has been made into Swedish and American movies.

The days are getting colder. Name a short, heartwarming read that could warm up someone’s cold and rainy day.

When a Scott Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare. It took me so long to think of a book for this one! I don’t really read heartwarming books let alone short ones. The one I’ve picked is a fun historical romance. It’s not exactly heartwarming but the characters are very endearing and have fun together.

Fall returns every year. Name an old favourite that you’d like to return too soon.

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Such a good atmospheric read. Perfect for this time of year and it’s prime time for a reread since Netflix is releasing an adaptation the month.
