Voyeur by Fiona Cole Review

Voyeur

Title: Voyeur

Series: n/a standalone

Author: Fiona Cole

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis:
I didn’t know she was my student the first time I paid to watch her at Voyeur.

Once she walked into my classroom, another smiling college freshman, I knew I should stop going. Stop watching.

But I couldn’t do it. Everything about her makes me want more, and once I realize she wants me too, the temptation becomes irresistible.

The worst part is that she has no idea her professor is the one watching behind the glass.

I just have to hope that once she finds out the truth, she wants the same thing I do. Because now that I’ve seen all of her, I can’t look away.

Review: Very steamy book with a sweet romance. It starts off with a bang and slows down a bit in the middle but has a satisfying ending.

Afterburn & Aftershock Book vs Movie

Welcome to the first post in my Elaine Reads Romance series 🧡 This is a new post series and an Instagram page focusing solely on romance. The Instagram page will be updated regularly and there will be occasional posts here on my blog.

I want to delve deeper into the romance genre and explore all the tropes/topics that I love (and hate) without changing the overall feel of my blog which is why I made the Instagram page. The majority of my reviews will be posted there along with discussions about authors, new releases, tropes and whatever else we feel like talking about.

So, if you’re a romance fan, come join me on Instagram and let’s chat romance 💕

“I’d face all that and more for a guy who really loved me,” I told him coldly. “But I’m not putting up with this shit from a jerk.”

Afterburn & Aftershock by Sylvia Day covers

Afterburn & Aftershock (Jax & Gia #1-2)

by Sylvia Day

Never mix business with pleasure. Never bring politics into the bedroom. In a way I did both when I took Jackson Rutledge as a lover. I can’t say I wasn’t warned.

Two years later, he was back. Walking into a deal I’d worked hard to close. Under the tutelage of Lei Yeung, one of the sharpest businesswomen in New York, I had picked up a thing or two since Jax walked away. I wasn’t the girl he once knew, but he hadn’t changed. Unlike the last time we’d drifted into each other’s lives, I knew exactly what I was dealing with… and how addictive his touch could be.

The inner circle of glamour, sex, and privilege was Jax’s playground–but this time, I knew the rules of the game. In the cutthroat business world, one adage rules all: keep your enemies close and your ex-lovers closer…

Review: This is a steamy one. A steamy steamy one.

Gia is one of the best leading ladies in contemporary romance I’ve read. She’s independent and goal orientated working to improve her career in the restaurant world when an old flame, Jax, resurfaces. He’s a directly involved in her latest business dealing meaning they have to spend a lot of time together.

Jax seems surprised by Gia’s attitude towards him but she isn’t afraid of letting him know what she’s feeling.

“Damn it. I didn’t know you were in love with me, Gia.”
My eyes closed against the pain of hearing those words from his lips. “If that’s true, you didn’t know me at all.”

He’s closed off emotionally and we don’t know why until they reach boiling point and something gives.

Their relationship is tumultuous, racy and deeply loving. I really enjoyed reading it 💕

IMDB Rating: 5.3/10

Review: The acting from the main cast is solid (some of the supporting cast are a bit hinky) and the guy playing Jax is suitably yummy. It’s a bit less steamy than the book but that’s bound to happen unless they make porn.

The movie follows the book quite closely. The dialogue is moved around in some places and it doesn’t really fit on one of these occasions.

Overall it’s good but not as good as the book.

My Rating: ★★★★☆

“You’re toying with one of my people,”
she said coldly, watching impassively as he lifted her hand to his mouth.
“You never used to be cruel”
“I used to have a heart,” he drawled “and then someone broke it.”

Shadow’s Bane by Karen Chance

Shadow's Bane (Dorina Basarab, #4)

Title: Shadow’s Bane

Author: Karen Chance

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Synopsis: Half-human, half-vampire Dorina Basarab is back–and facing her biggest challenge yet in the next urban fantasy in the New York Times bestselling series.

Dorina Basarab is a dhampir–half-human, half-vampire. As one of the Vampire Senate’s newest members, Dory already has a lot on her plate. But then a relative of one of Dory’s fey friends goes missing. They fear he’s been sold to a slaver who arranges fights–sometimes to the death–between different types of fey.

As Dory investigates, she and her friends learn the slavers are into something much bigger than a fight club. With the Vampire Senate gearing up for war with Faerie, it’ll take everything she has to defeat the slavers–and deal with the entirely too attractive master vampire Louis-Cesare….

What I thought about the book: Loved every minute of this rip-roaring ride of a book!

With typical audacious Dory style and humour, we’re back in Chance’s world of vampires and fae. In this instalment, we follow Dory on her first job with the Senate searching for smugglers looking to benefit from the upcoming war.

As with all of Chance’s books, this is full of action and so fast paced you will be on the edge of your seat!… if it’s possible to be on the edge of your seat reading a book… The book is quite a bit longer than previous instalments but with such a long gap between publications, the extra bit of recapping at the beginning was greatly appreciated but does slow progression of the plot for the first 100 or so pages.

Once that’s out of the way we’re treated to the most entertaining book in the series that also does a lot to expand the universe of both the Dorina series and the Cassandra Palmer series. I absolutely loved the glimpses into Mircea’s past as a young vampire and the growing dynamic between Dory and her alter ego vampire self Dorina. There’s a lot going on there I never suspected and I can’t wait to see where it goes. We get a lot of growth in relationships and in who the characters are in this one as well especially with Dorina, Mircea and Caedmon.

Loved every minute of this one and can’t wait for the next. Dragon’s Claw, a Dorina/Pritkin crossover novella is due out the end of this month.

Favourite Quote: “There are a thousand ways to die,” he told me quietly. “There are so few really to live. I would gladly risk the former for the latter, and it is my choice, is it not? To risk whatever I must, my heart, my body, my soul, in order to be with you. Is that not what love is? – Louis-Cesare

What I thought about the book:  Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It was a fun book. A bit raunchier than I expected but in a silly way.

I was expecting it to be like Pride and Prejudice but it’s more like modern Historical Romances with manly Scotsmen “cabers” and so on…

For my adventure, I ran off with a hot Scot to the Highlands. It wasn’t just romance though. There was a murder mystery for me to puzzle out too which kept the story interesting. I liked how the option to naturally change adventures during the story came up a few times as well in case I got bored of my Scot (as if!).

Very enjoyable, good for a few giggles. A great light-hearted rainy day read that you can revisit and begin something new.
