Happy Friday!! What are you reading this weekend? I have four books on the go at the moment. I’m actively reading The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix for the Halloween season. Well, I say reading but I’m actually listening to the audiobook. The narrator is quite good! I’m not familiar with regional American accents but I like how she makes them sound. The story is pretty good so far too.

What are you reading this weekend?

Synopsis

Patricia Campbell’s life has never felt smaller. Her husband is a workaholic, her teenage kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she’s always a step behind on her endless to-do list. The only thing keeping her sane is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime. At these meetings they’re as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are about their own families.

One evening after book club, Patricia is viciously attacked by an elderly neighbor, bringing the neighbor’s handsome nephew, James Harris, into her life. James is well traveled and well read, and he makes Patricia feel things she hasn’t felt in years. But when children on the other side of town go missing, their deaths written off by local police, Patricia has reason to believe James Harris is more of a Bundy than a Brad Pitt. The real problem? James is a monster of a different kind—and Patricia has already invited him in.

Little by little, James will insinuate himself into Patricia’s life and try to take everything she took for granted—including the book club—but she won’t surrender without a fight in this blood-soaked tale of neighborly kindness gone wrong.

  1. Reading this weekend? Are you sure you want to know? Okay. Two books:
1 – Business Research Methods by Alan Bryman & Emma Bell
2 – Love Worth Making: How to Have Ridiculously Great Sex in a Long-Lasting Relationship
    by Stephen Snyder
I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a more diversified selection that that. 🙂

    1. It’s difficult to really feel the spookiness with books. The only one I ever remember feeling spooked out by was ‘Salem’s Lot by Stephen King but I was a teenager when I read it.

  2. I usually read more than one book at a time; currently in my rotation are Jack Mitchell’s The Odyssey of Star Wars: An Epic Poem; On Desperate Ground, by Hampton Sides; The Iliad, by Homer; The Spanish Armada, by Robert Hutchinson, The Battle of Britain, by James Holland

  3. Great post! This weekend, I’m reading She-Wolves by Helen Castor, it’s such a fascinating read about female monarchs throughout history! I’m also hoping to make progress on El Libro de Arena by Jorge Luis Borges!

  4. Sounds like an interesting book! I’m currently only reading one book as it is for my Blog Tour on 1 November. I will be honest and say that I only ever have two books on the go as I don’t think that I could handle more than that!
