Review:
I love the idea behind this variation; what would happen if their love had to bloom much slower? If there was a major obstacle in the way?
Mr Darcy’s Undoing (originally published in 2007 as Without Reserve) is one of Abigail Reynolds earliest Pride and Prejudice retellings and my first by her. Having read it I’m excited to read more of them.
In this story Darcy has a real rival for Lizzie’s affection. A family friend she already admires and is a genuinely nice character. The fact that he’s actually nice makes the story that little bit more tense. She accepts his proposal before Darcy has a chance to prove his love and demonstrate how her criticisms of his character changed him.
I really enjoyed reading this version of their love story. It has all of the pageantry, pomp and drama of the Georgian era with a touch of modern relationship ideology.
