Title: Ruin and Rising
Series: Grisha Trilogy #3
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult
Synopsis: The capital has fallen.
The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.
Now the nation’s fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.
Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.
Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova’s amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling’s secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.

Ok, I’ve never experienced this before but the first book was the best.
I did enjoy this one. The conclusion to the story is mostly satisfying BUT I feel like a lot of the complications for the main characters that had been developed were too easily resolved. Almost conveniently resolved to tie everything up in a neat little bow and the consequences for everything that happened were minimal or actually beneficial.
But it is a really good story and the villain is one of the best I’ve read.

Completely agree with you. I much rather preferred her second series over her first.

A lot of people seem to feel that way. I think I’ll read it over the summer.

I agree with you on this. I definitely thought the first book was the best out of this series. Because I thought this series was just okay, it’s making me not really want to start the Six of Crows duology even though I heard it’s much better than this series.

I’m the same… I got Six of Crows so I will read it at some point but I’m in no hurry. I do really want to read King of Scars though

I’ve heard SoC is MUCH better so that makes me happy. I am excited for King of Scars, but will probably have to do a character look up for some of the characters from the Grisha Trilogy that make an appearance in KoS because I forgot them already, whoops!

Six of Crows is far superior to the Grisha trilogy. I hope you give it a try soon!

That’s what I keep hearing! It’s on my TBR list for this year so I will get to it at some point. 🙂
