Cosy Winter Reading

Lady Chatterley's Lover Wuthering Heights Bridget Jones's Diary Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows kindle paperbacks

Holiday books aren’t really my thing but I got it into my head to read some this year as well as books that just feel winterish to me. I’m feeling more Christmasy than most years (probably because I’m not working in retail anymore) and want some festive fun. (While writing this I had a memory of my little brother singing “Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney” when he was small going over and over in my head. I apologise if I accidentally wrote the lyrics in somewhere 😉 ) Click on a title to view its Goodreads synopsis.

Bridget Jones's Diary Bridget Jones’s Diary

I see the movie as a Christmas movie since it opens and closes during that time. I don’t know if the book follows the same format but I’m guessing it does. I’m excited to read a slice of 90’s life for a woman in her 30’s. I’m expecting it to be a bit like Marien Keyes without all the Irishness and cleverly placed series issues.

Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights

A winterish book if ever there was one. The name alone makes me feel cold and dreary. Since this will be a reread and it’s quite depressing I will probably leave it until last.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter, #7) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The final book in my Harry Potter reread. I should have read it back in September but I just couldn’t. This is the only book in the series that I’ve read only once. Every time I think of reading it again I just can’t face it! I remember everything that happens and just can’t! But I’m going to do it now… I will!

Little Women Little Women

Another one that I’ve watched but not read. It takes place over several years but it always makes me think of Christmas because….well… of the Christmas scenes in the movie.

Lady Chatterley's Lover Lady Chatterley’s Lover

I don’t know what season this is actually set in but from watching a TV mini-series it looked cold… definitely not summer. This book was banned as pornography after it’s release in the early 20th century but I’ve found a lot of older books labelled as overtly sexual tend to only make references to such things. We shall see…

Once Upon a Christmas Eve (Maiden Lane, #12.6) Once Upon a Christmas Eve

Hey look, an actual Christmas book! Hoyt is my favourite historical romance author, so when I got an email about this novella it went straight onto my list. This is actually the main reason I compiled it. It’s set in her Maiden Lane series but it’s stand-alone and under 100 pages. Perfect for reading after stuffing my face with Christmas dinner. Although maybe not because her books tend to be quite dirty… not something to read around the family.

An Ex for Christmas An Ex for Christmas

Hey, look at that, another Christmas book and the only book set in this century. I didn’t mean to do that but it makes for a more interesting reading list I guess (to make it really interesting I should really throw in a bit of horror). I’ve only read one book by Lauren Layne previously, Blurred Lines, a classic friends to lovers romance. I get bored with contemporary romance very quickly but that one held my attention so I figured I’d give this one a go. Seems like another one perfect for some cosy Christmas day reading.

Ok, so there are only two Christmas books but I think it’s a pretty good list of winter reading. I’m looking forward to wrapping up in front of the fire with a cuppa and one of these guys. My plan is to read them between now and the end of January.

What are you reading this winter? Have any Christmas books to suggest? Some Christmas horror maybe?…

All of the books mentioned are available from Book Depository with free worldwide shipping.

And just cause…

My brother sang it better 😉 Check out his tattoo page on Facebook.
